Create Your Own Purpose

April 25, 2024

People who work in emergency medicine have a tough job. But they also have something most of us wish we had.

Purpose.

When they go to bed at night, they do so knowing that they saved someone’s life that day. That’s tough to beat, if you ask me.

What about the rest of us? How do we get that same kind of satisfaction? Or at least something close to it.

Hidden Value

Saving someone’s life can take many different forms.

When you share a lesson you’ve learned, you could be helping someone get through a difficult time.

When you tell stories about people you admire, you are definitely giving them the strength to keep going.

When you share your ideas, you just might inspire someone to make a positive change in their lives.

Someone Needs to Hear Your Story

If you’re missing purpose in your work, try the simple act of telling your stories. There is tremendous power and value hidden in them, and there are many, many people who need to hear what you have to say.

I get it. It’s scary to put yourself out there. Nobody wants to get judged and criticized.

But when you get that first bit of feedback and gratitude for being just the voice someone needs to hear, there’s not much better.
