3 Storytelling Best Practices for Executives

A CEO’s stories matter. They have the power to build acompany’s brand, culture, and reputation.

Same goes for other executives, leaders, and subject matter experts.

But I get it. Executives are busy people with a lot of important sh*t to do. Telling stories might not be on the top of their list.

If that sounds like you, I’m here to help!

Here are 3 easy best practices for CEOs, executives and leaders to start telling their stories and impacting their businesses.

Interact on LinkedIn

If you’re new to telling your stories on a platform like LinkedIn, the best thing you can do is spend time there. Consume other people’s content, follow new creators, and give them a like or two.

Best of all, join the conversation! Leave thoughtful comments that add to the discussion.

This will not only raise your profile, but it will also give you inspiration for when you start sharing your own stories.

Celebrate Your People

If you’re not sure what you want to say in your feed, a can’t-miss strategy is to give your employees and colleagues kudos and shout-outs.

Tell short stories about what makes them awesome. As professionals and more importantly, as people.

This strategy works on every level. Employees will appreciate the recognition. They will feel like they matter and will create better customer experiences. And customers will take note of how you treat your people.

Trust Your Communications Department

The people in your communications department (PR, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, etc.) know how to connect with your target audiences.

They are a more valuable resource than you might realize. Partner with them to find the best ways to tell your stories. And the best platforms to tell them.

Trust them to bring your stories to life.

And if you (or your communications department) needs help from someone who specializes in helping executives tell their stories, I’d be honored to help you. Schedule a 15-minute introduction.
